Nico de Klerk (PhD) is a social entrepreneur and public speaker, an “Extraordinary Lecturer” at the School of Social Innovation, Huguenot College, Wellington, South Africa, and served as an Adjunct-Professor in Spiritual Theology at Princeton Theological Seminary, USA.


Nico is the Founder of StreetBiz Foundation, a non-profit company in South Africa, whose vision is the development of the entrepreneurial mindset among Black youth and unemployed as the most important way to address poverty, unemployment, and inequality (aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN).


Nico completed his PhD studies in 2016, focused on El Camino de Santiago, the pilgrimage from France to Santiago in Spain, which he completed after graduation as probably the first pilgrim with a PhD about the Camino, on the Camino.Nico’s PhD has been transformed into a short online course at the Huguenot College, known as “Pilgrims Theology”. The course is open to any person, regardless of background.


The Long Walk for the Entrepreneurial Mindset project was a direct outcome of his studies and for this project, he received the Edward de Bono Award for the Best Global Social Innovative Project in Edward de Bono’s capacity as the International Ambassador of Knowledge forLife Learning Academia.


The story of this walk across South Africa, visiting more than a 100 township communities, got published in a book, No Fit: My 1,700-Mile Walk from Apartheid, available on Amazon, Kindle and eBooks.


The above is the outcome of a life-long journey which started in the ministry of the Dutch Reformed Church and ended in 1993 because of Nico’s stance against Apartheid. His life’s mission was formed by many experiences including his role at the National Peace Secretariat during the transition to democracy in ’94, his pastoral therapy practice, and more than twenty years as a business consultant and Coach.


Nico has two daughters, Lize, a dietician with a private practice in George, South Africa and Suníca, an interior architect in Madrid, Spain, both married.
